$33,000 – City of Cincinnati Summer Interns

Purpose: To provide six undergraduate and graduate students with an opportunity to learn about city government while contributing to it through summer internships in various departments

 

$20,000 – Cincinnati Public Radio Inc. (WVXU)

Purpose: To provide in-depth exploration and meaningful coverage of local and state government issues and events

 

$16,000 – Applied Information Resources Inc.

Purpose: To educate local citizens about the possibility and need for political reform in Ohio elections, especially concerning gerrymandering and the growing domination of “big money” in campaign finance

 

$12,500 – Future Leaders Internship Program (NKU)

Purpose: To provide students with the opportunity to enroll in internship programs at the state and local levels with an emphasis on good public policy

 

$12,000 – Peaslee Neighborhood Center

Purpose: To educate local citizens on political engagement within the Peaslee Neighborhood community through education, outreach, advocacy, and leadership development

 

$10,000 University of Cincinnati College of Law

 Purpose: To provide funding for the Ohio Innocence Project that engages law students to work with their professors on pro bono cases to establish the innocence of prisoners in potential cases of mistaken identity

 

$10,000 – League of Women Voters of the Cincinnati Area Education Fund

Purpose: To produce an election guide for the November 2016 elections in print and online, to encourage citizen participation in the election process by providing comprehensive information without partisan influence

 

$10,000 – Ohio Justice and Policy Center

Purpose: To promote public awareness of the deficiencies within the criminal justice system in regards to domestic violence

 

$10,000 – Environmental Community Organization

Purpose: To increase citizen participation in the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) rate setting process, and to educate the public about the MSD sewer rates

 

$10,000 – Invest in Neighborhoods

Purpose: To fund the 2017 Neighborhood Summit, an annual event which brings together hundreds of community leaders and volunteers, city officials, and non-profits for a series of workshops and seminars

 

$7,500 – Beyond Civility

Purpose: Communication for Effective Governance Purpose: To educate citizens on how to promote a more functional and less polarizing practice of political discourse

 

$7,500 – Cincinnati Interfaith Workers Center

Purpose: To educate lower income residents on the paths to gain unpaid wages, as well as promote good government in the active pursuance of ordinances making it harder on organization to not pay wages

 

$5,500 – Hamilton County – Office of the County Administrator

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for a college student to gain first-hand experience working with the County Administrator’s Office of a large urban county

 

$5,000 – YMCA of Greater Cincinnati

Purpose: To expose high school students to the history, structure, and operations of local government and to promote civic literacy and involvement in community service

 

$5,000 – The Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration

Purpose: Will provide an opportunity for a student to work in the public sector and gain a better understanding of how various entities provide services and enhance and support the communities

 

$5,000 – The Village of Silverton

Purpose: To promote civic engagement through engaging Silverton-area resident in the development of a master plan for locating and commissioning public art in Silverton

 

$4,000 – Woman’s City Club of Greater Cincinnati

Purpose: To fund a national speaker to educate local chapter members as well as citizens on civic literacy and engagement

 

$4,000 – Village of Silverton

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for a Cincinnati resident student to intern in a municipal government and gain experience in their field

 

$3,556 – Kenton County – Intern, Planning and Zoning Administration Department

Purpose: To provide a college student the opportunity to intern with the County Planning Agency to gain work experience in their field

 

$3,500 – Kenton County – Intern Planning and Zoning Administration Department

Purpose: To provide a college student the opportunity to intern with the County Planning Agency to gain work experience in their field

 

$3,000 – Center for Local Government

Purpose: To promote good government practices by providing training opportunities for Southwestern Ohio government professionals

 

$3,000 – Kids Voting Inc.

Purpose: To give students in Northern Kentucky an opportunity to visit official polling sites on election days, cast mock ballots, and learn about the responsibility citizens have to participate in the election process

Purpose: To provide internships to the 10th grade students who have enrolled in the Institute’s 4-year, law-based college preparatory program

Purpose: To educate the public about environmental issues and the relating governmental and non-governmental agencies available for gardening, native and adaptive landscapes, sustainable homes/buildings, reducing pollution, recycling, and indoor air quality

Purpose: To acknowledge Public Administrators to take pride in their profession and acknowledge the contributions of their colleagues while highlighting the importance and dedication of the field

 

$600 – Public Service Recognition Cincinnati

Purpose: To host an annual awards ceremony honoring government employees for outstanding contributions to public service
